To book a taxi in Napoli, call the radio taxi at 081 2222 or use the itTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Naples, taxis can be picked up at the official taxi ranks - Piazza Garibaldi/Stazione Centrale, Piazza Municipio/Molo Beverello and in front of the arrivals area at Capodichino airport - or you can call a radiotaxi: Consortaxi at 081.2222, Radio Taxi Partenope at 081.0101, Radiotaxi 081.6969 or Taxi Napoli at 081.8888. Alternatively, you can book via apps such as itTaxi, FreeNow, appTaxi or Wetaxi. To and from the airport, it's worth asking straight away for the predetermined urban fare, which is fixed and includes all surcharges.

Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
The Centro Antico (historic center) has a ZTL (limited traffic zone) with electronic gates in operation (hours vary by street, e.g. via del Sole Mon-Thu 9-22, Fri-Sun 9-24/2), but taxis and NCC (chauffeur-driven hire cars) are allowed to circulate, as they are classed as non-scheduled public transport, without needing a special permit.

- Predetermined urban fares (for the airport, station, port) must be explicitly requested at the start of the ride: the driver must issue a receipt showing the agreed amount before setting off.
- Only get in at official taxi ranks or from a taxi called via radiotaxi/app: the City reports Local Police checks against unauthorized taxis and NCC drivers, especially at Piazza Garibaldi and Capodichino airport.
- Check for the City of Naples emblem and the 4-digit CP code on the door and dashboard: it's the same code you should note down in case of lost property or complaints about the service.
