To book a taxi in Trieste, call the radio taxi at 040 307730 or use the itTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.

In Trieste, the simplest way to find a taxi is to call one of the city's radio taxi cooperatives, book through their respective apps, or head to one of the taxi ranks in the centre, such as Piazza Nicolò Tommaseo or in front of Stazione Centrale. The two main cooperatives are Radio Taxi Trieste (040 307730), active since 1975 and the largest in the Triveneto with around 220 cars, and Tergeste Taxi (040 44478), also bookable through the itTaxi app. Since 2024 Uber has also arrived, operating in the city as Uber Taxi in partnership with the local cooperatives, alongside the Black/Van tier for NCC (chauffeur-driven) service. The airport is located at Ronchi dei Legionari (in the Province of Gorizia), about 33 km from Trieste. Taxis are available outside the Arrivals area from 8:00 to 24:00; the airport taxi service is run by Taxi Trieste Airport (tel. 0481 778000 / mobile 389 9681210, taxitriesteairport.it), listed on the airport's official website. Alternatively there is the extra-urban bus line 51 (airport-Trieste, terminus at Piazza Libertà next to the train station) and train+shuttle bus connections.

Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)

Trieste's historic centre (Borgo Teresiano/Città Nuova, between Stazione Centrale, Corso Italia, Via Carducci and the seafront) is regulated by Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL): the type A ZTL is reserved mainly for pedestrians and bicycles, while the type B ZTL bans access and parking around the clock on weekdays except for residents and authorised categories. Taxis authorised by the Comune are nonetheless allowed to enter and carry out passenger pick-up/drop-off.
