How to book a taxi in Udine
Updated: July 11, 2026 · Province of UD
To book a taxi in Udine, call the radio taxi at 0432 505858 or use the appTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Udine the simplest way to find a taxi is to call Radio Taxi Udine, run by the Consorzio C.A.P.U. (Consorzio fra Autisti da Piazza di Udine), active since 1973 and bringing together all of the roughly 40 licensed taxi drivers in the city: an operator answers every day of the year across six lines at 0432 505858. As an alternative to calling, you can book through the InTaxi or appTaxi apps (the latter developed by Udine-based company Microtek), via SMS or WhatsApp, or simply go directly to the taxi ranks in the city centre, in Piazza Libertà, near the Duomo and in front of the railway station. For those arriving by air, Udine has no airport of its own: the reference airport is Trieste-Ronchi dei Legionari, reachable by taxi at a fixed fare published by the local cooperative. Uber is only available in the Black/Van version with NCC (hire-with-driver) drivers, while the other major national ride-hailing apps do not appear to be reliably active in the city.

Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Trieste - Ronchi dei Legionari (TRS) (TRS) · ~40 km from the center
Taxi fare: Ride to/from Trieste-Ronchi dei Legionari airport (about 40 km): fixed fare of 92.63 EUR during the day/holiday band and 111.24 EUR during the night band (22:00-06:00) or night holiday band, according to the official fare list of Radio Taxi Udine (C.A.P.U.).
The fare is the one listed in the official fare list published by the Udine taxi cooperative (taxiudine.it) for the fixed Udine-Ronchi dei Legionari airport route; motorway tolls and any waiting time are not included. At the airport, local taxis (operated by Taxi Trieste Airport, tel. 0481 778000) are available outside the Arrivals area from 8:00 to 24:00; outside these hours it is best to book a taxi from Udine or an NCC (hire-with-driver) service in advance.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
Udine's historic centre is covered by two ZTL (limited traffic) zones, "Centro" (bounded by the access points on via Palladio, via Battisti, via Poscolle Alta, via Savorgnana/piazza Venerio, via Manin and vicolo Sillio) and "Viola" (access point on via Viola/via Cernazai). From 13 April 2026 camera enforcement is active at the access points; until 13 July 2026 violations receive only an informal warning, while from 14 July 2026 automatic fines will apply. Taxis, as vehicles used for public service, are among the vehicles authorised to enter the limited traffic zones according to the local taxi cooperative.
Practical tips
- At the official taxi ranks (Piazza Libertà, the railway station, via Manzini) you can find taxis even without booking, but at night or on public holidays it is advisable to call Radio Taxi Udine beforehand to avoid waiting.
- For excursions in the Collio or Colli Orientali del Friuli area, it is best to agree a time-based or fixed-route fare with the driver in advance, since these are out-of-town routes with a higher per-kilometre rate than the urban service.
- Udine's historic centre (Piazza Libertà, the Castello hill) is largely a ZTL zone with cameras active at the access points from 13 April 2026: those arriving by their own car would do better to park in the exchange car parks and continue into the city centre by taxi.
- For transfers to/from Trieste-Ronchi dei Legionari airport it is worth booking a taxi in advance, especially for flights arriving after midnight, when the airport's local taxis are not guaranteed to be on site.
- Those staying for wine tourism in the Collio or Colli Orientali del Friuli area can ask Radio Taxi Udine for a quote for an hourly service with a driver, convenient for visiting several wineries in a day without worrying about driving.
