Updated: July 8, 2026 · Province of MI
To book a taxi in Milano, call the radio taxi at 02 4040 or use the appTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Milan you can catch a taxi at one of the ranks scattered around the city (Duomo, Stazione Centrale, San Babila, Cadorna) or call one of the city's radio taxi services: Taxiblu at 02.4040, Taxi Milano at 02.8585, or Radio Taxi Milano at 02.6969, all active 24 hours a day. Alternatively you can book through an app such as itTaxi, FreeNow, appTaxi, or Wetaxi, which let you track the car in real time and pay from your smartphone. Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Milano-Malpensa (MXP) · ~49 km from the center
Taxi fare: Fixed fare of EUR 114 between Malpensa airport and any address in Milan city (set by the Regione Lombardia for the Lombardy airport catchment area, in effect since 1 July 2024; it includes tolls and any night or holiday surcharges, and applies only to authorized white taxis).
Milan is also served by Linate airport, much closer to the centre (about 8 km): here there is no fixed municipal fare and the ride runs on the normal urban meter (roughly EUR 20-35). A third airport, Milano Bergamo-Orio al Serio, is located in the province of Bergamo, about 45 km from Milan.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
Milan's historic centre is covered by Area C, the paid ZTL (limited traffic zone) active Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) from 7:30 to 19:30. Taxis with a plate properly registered in the city's systems are exempt from paying the entry ticket and can freely enter and drive through this area, unlike private cars.
Practical tips
- In Milan taxis are mainly caught at city ranks (Duomo, Stazione Centrale, San Babila, Cadorna) or called by phone, app, SMS, or WhatsApp: flagging down a free taxi on the street is less common than in other Italian cities.
- From Malpensa airport, the taxi fare to any address in Milan is fixed at EUR 114 (all-inclusive, the same by day, at night, and on holidays); from Linate, much closer to the centre, there is no fixed fare and you travel on the urban meter.
- Taxis with a plate properly registered can freely enter and drive through Area C, the ZTL of the historic centre active Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 19:30, without paying the entry ticket required of private cars.
- Booking in advance (a call with a scheduled pickup) is useful during peak hours, Fashion Week, or Salone del Mobile: the request stays in a queue and is assigned to the nearest available taxi a few minutes before the agreed time.
