Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Bari Karol Wojtyła (BRI) · ~9 km from the center
Taxi fare: Fixed municipal fare (luggage included): EUR 25 between the airport and the Murat/Borgo Antico/Libertà districts (historic center); EUR 20 to Palese, San Paolo and the neighborhoods near the airport; EUR 28-30 to Madonnella, Picone, Poggiofranco, Carbonara, Japigia; EUR 35 to Loseto/San Girolamo; EUR 40 to Torre a Mare. Fares approved by the City Council (resolution no. 50 of 5/2/2024).
For airport rides charged by the meter (i.e. outside the fixed fares listed above), a minimum fare of EUR 15 still applies.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
The historic center (Bari Vecchia) and some main streets in the Murat district are a restricted traffic zone (ZTL), with electronic gates and "blue streets" reserved 24/7 for residents and authorized vehicles. Taxis are among the categories that can obtain an access permit from the Polizia Locale (via AMTAB) and circulate regularly within the ZTL, unlike unauthorized private cars.
Practical tips
- Beware of fake taxi drivers offering unauthorized rides at the airport and near Stazione Centrale: Polizia Locale conducts regular checks (27 fines between January and August 2025) and reminds passengers to only get into white cars with a municipal license displayed and a meter.
- For Karol Wojtyła airport always ask for the fixed fare (EUR 20-40 depending on the neighborhood, luggage included): it's almost always cheaper than the meter, which in any case starts at a minimum fare of EUR 15 for rides departing from the airport.
- The first bag is free; from the second one you pay EUR 1 per piece, and transporting animals (outside a carrier) costs an extra EUR 2.
- On holidays and at night (22:00-6:00) the minimum fare rises from EUR 7 to EUR 9; in that time slot there is also the discounted 'Taxi Rosa' fare (20% off) for women traveling alone or with minors.
