How to book a taxi in Olbia
Updated: July 12, 2026 · Province of SS
To book a taxi in Olbia, call the radio taxi at 0789 24999 or use the itTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Olbia, the easiest way to find a taxi is to go to one of the main taxi ranks - in front of the Arrivals area at Costa Smeralda Airport, at the Isola Bianca port, or along Corso Umberto I in the centre - or to call Radio Taxi Olbia directly. Alternatively, since 2023 you can book through the Uber app (which here works as a way to call authorised taxis, not as private ride-sharing) or through itTaxi. As the main air and sea gateway to north-eastern Sardegna and the Costa Smeralda, the city sees very high taxi demand in the summer months, with queues at the airport and the port during peak times. For the historic centre, where the Basilica di San Simplicio is located, you should also bear in mind the ZTL (limited traffic zone), which is active with different hours depending on the street.

Since May 2024, local press has also reported the arrival of Uber Black (chauffeur-driven NCC cars) in some tourist areas of Sardegna, but in Olbia the availability of Black drivers remains variable and scarcer out of season compared with the Taxi service. | Available |

Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Olbia Costa Smeralda (OLB) · ~3 km from the center
Taxi fare: A fixed minimum fare of €15,00 per ride (either way) between the airport and Olbia town, set by the Municipality of Olbia (resolution 2020) and confirmed on the official website of Geasar, the airport's management company.
The taxi rank is in front of the Arrivals side of the terminal, operating 24/7. On top of the minimum fare, the following can be added: €3,00 if the taxi is called out to pick you up from a city car park, €1,00 per piece of luggage (max €3,00), and a +20% surcharge during night hours (roughly 21/22:00-06:00) and on public holidays. Outside the urban perimeter (e.g. towards Porto Rotondo or the Costa Smeralda), the extra-urban metered fare applies instead of the minimum airport fare.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
Olbia's historic centre has a ZTL (limited traffic zone) covering Corso Umberto I and the surrounding streets: some access points (e.g. Corso Umberto I and via delle Terme) remain active 24 hours a day, while others operate from 17:00 to midnight; since 2025 a further sub-zone, C3 (via Tempio, via Tigellio, via Cagliari and the surrounding area), has also been introduced, active 17:00-24:00 every day. Municipal ZTL office: via Garibaldi 49, tel. 0789 52166.
Practical tips
- In July and August, taxi demand skyrockets due to the simultaneous arrival of flights and ferries: it's a good idea to book in advance by phone or via an app, especially for the evening return trip from the clubs and venues of the Costa Smeralda.
- For transfers to Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo, Baja Sardinia and the other towns of the Costa Smeralda there is no fixed fare: these are extra-urban rides on the meter, so always ask for a price estimate by phone before setting off.
- The airport taxi rank operates 24/7 in front of the Arrivals side; if instead you call a taxi to come to a city car park, a 3-euro surcharge applies.
- The historic centre around Corso Umberto I and the Basilica di San Simplicio is subject to the ZTL, with different hours depending on the street: let your driver know your exact destination so they can drop you at the nearest permitted point.
- If you're travelling in a group (5-8 people), keep in mind that a 20% surcharge applies, communicated verbally by the driver - useful to know when organising transfers to the Isola Bianca ferries.
