Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Palermo "Falcone e Borsellino" (Punta Raisi) (PMO) · ~35 km from the center
Taxi fare: Fixed airport-to-city fares (valid both day and night, on weekdays and holidays): 39€ for viale Michelangelo/viale Lazio, 44€ for corso Calatafimi/corso Vittorio Emanuele (historic centre area), 50€ for Stazione Centrale/Brancaccio. Shared taxi service is also available from the two stands in Arrivals, 10€ per passenger (minimum 4 people).
Falcone e Borsellino Airport is located at Punta Raisi, in the municipality of Cinisi, about 35 km from the centre of Palermo (25-35 minutes by car). Taxis operating at the airport are run by the same two cooperatives active in the city.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
The historic centre has a ZTL (limited traffic zone) in force all year round from Monday to Friday (8:00-20:00), extended on summer weekends (1 May-31 October) within the area bounded by piazza Giulio Cesare, via Cavour, Porta Nuova and Porta Felice. Taxis and NCC cars (licensed chauffeur-driven hire vehicles) with up to 9 seats can enter freely by registering, free of charge, on the municipal "Lista Bianca" (White List).
Practical tips
- Airport-to-city fares are fixed and published: 39-50€ depending on the destination area, valid day and night, so there's no need to haggle or worry about the meter on the airport route.
- Taxis (unlike private cars) can circulate freely in the historic centre's ZTL (between piazza Giulio Cesare, via Cavour, Porta Nuova and Porta Felice) thanks to their registration on the municipal Lista Bianca.
- At ranks in squares or at the station, only get into white cars with a meter, a municipal licence displayed and the logo of one of the official cooperatives: unauthorised cars posing as taxis near tourist transport hubs and charging higher fares have been reported.
- In high season (summer) and at weekends, a phone booking can involve up to a 20-minute wait: book a little in advance by app or phone if you have a schedule to keep, such as a ferry or a flight.
