How to book a taxi in Assisi
Updated: July 8, 2026 · Province of PG
To book a taxi in Assisi, call the radio taxi at 075 813100 or use the itTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Assisi, taxis are booked by calling Radio Taxi Assisi, the local cooperative based on Via Arco dei Priori, at 075 81.31.00, or through the itTaxi app (local operator It Taxi Assisi, tel. 075 99.30.007). Both services run transfers to/from Perugia \"San Francesco d'Assisi\" airport (about 13 km, 15-20 minutes) and are permitted to enter the historic center's ZTL to drop passengers off at hotels and restaurants.

Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Perugia "San Francesco d'Assisi" (Sant'Egidio) (PEG) · ~13 km from the center
Taxi fare: No fixed fare is officially published by Radio Taxi Assisi; industry sources indicate an indicative cost of around €30-35 for the airport-to-Assisi ride (for up to 4 people), to be confirmed at the time of booking or on the meter.
The airport is located in the hamlet of Sant'Egidio, roughly halfway between Perugia and Assisi; as an alternative to taxi, the "Umbria Airlink" bus+train service runs to Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli station (about 20 minutes, ticket €5).
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
Assisi's historic center is a ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone). In low season (November 2 - March 20) the restriction applies only from 10:00-12:30, Monday to Friday; in high season the morning and afternoon bands remain in force, with "red days" extending until 20:00. From January 2026, access is monitored by 5 electronic gates (Porta San Giacomo, Largo Properzio, via Porta Perlici, via Marconi, via del Turrione). Taxis, as a public service, are generally authorized to enter to drop off passengers, unlike private cars, which need a permit.
Practical tips
- Staffed taxi ranks can be found in Piazza del Comune, Piazza Santa Chiara, Piazza San Francesco and at the Santa Maria degli Angeli train station: useful if the radio taxi line is busy.
- During high season (Easter, summer, the Festa di San Francesco on October 3-4) it's worth booking a taxi well in advance, especially for airport transfers.
- Not all cars are equipped with a card reader: if you plan to pay by card, it's best to confirm this when booking.
Frequently asked questions
Can you get an Uber in Assisi?
No. Classic Uber does not exist in Italy, and even Uber Black (the premium chauffeur-driven car service) is only active in a few major Italian cities, not in Assisi. To get around, use Radio Taxi Assisi or the itTaxi app.
Can taxis enter Assisi's historic center, which is a ZTL?
Yes: the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) regulates access for private cars, but taxis, as an authorized public service, can normally pass through to drop passengers off at hotels, restaurants and monuments in the heart of town.
