Aeroporto di Verona-Villafranca "Valerio Catullo" (VRN) · ~12 km from the center
Taxi fare: A fixed fare set by municipal resolution and applied by the radiotaxis between Catullo airport and the squares of the city center (Piazza Brà, Piazza Erbe, via Diaz, Castelvecchio, San Zeno): 30 EUR by day, 35 EUR at night and on holidays (a trip of about 15-20 minutes). For the airport-to-Porta Nuova station connection, the fixed fare is 26 EUR by day and 30 EUR at night/on holidays.
About 50-60 km from Verona there is also Brescia-Montichiari airport (VBS), co-managed by the same operating company and marketed as "Verona-Brescia": it is used by some low-cost flights, with a shuttle bus service to Verona Porta Nuova.
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
Verona's historic center is a ZTL (limited traffic zone), and since 28 October 2024 it has become even more restrictive, with the pedestrianization of Piazza Erbe, via Pellicciai and corte Sgarzerie. Taxis remain among the few categories always authorized to circulate there while on duty, along with residents, emergency vehicles and holders of disabled parking permits, even where private cars cannot pass.
Practical tips
- The main taxi ranks are at Piazza Brà, Piazza Erbe, in front of Porta Nuova station (Piazzale 25 Aprile) and on via Diaz: taking the first taxi in line costs less than calling a radiotaxi, because the meter only starts running once the ride begins.
- Rides booked by phone or app carry a fixed surcharge (call-out fee) on top of the metered fare, set by the City Council and displayed inside the vehicle.
- During the big Veronafiere trade fairs (Vinitaly in April, Fieracavalli in November) demand for taxis rises sharply and bookings may be limited during certain time slots: it's best to plan ahead or head to a taxi rank.
- Major credit and debit cards, including contactless, are generally accepted on board, but it's worth confirming with the driver before getting in, especially with smaller vehicles.
