To book a taxi in Sorrento, call the radio taxi at 081 878 2204 or use the appTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Sorrento there isn't a single large radio-taxi consortium like in big cities: the service is organized mainly around the taxi ranks in the town centre, in particular the one at Piazza Tasso and the one at the Circumvesuviana station, both reachable by phone. Alongside these is the historic Cooperativa Tasso, founded in 1970 by Sorrento taxi drivers, which runs a dispatch centre operating 24 hours a day all year round, including for transfers to the Napoli airport and the station. Fares are not left to free negotiation: the Comune di Sorrento publishes an official fare schedule, updated in October 2025, with a starting fee, minimum fare, and night, holiday and luggage surcharges. The fixed fare of €125 is set by the Comune di Napoli (delibera G.C. 258/2024) and applies only to journeys that START from the airport with Neapolitan taxis ("CP" numberplate); it must be requested at the start of the journey and already includes the radio-taxi call-out, night/holiday surcharge, luggage and airport surcharge (motorway tolls excluded). For the return journey from Sorrento to the airport there is no equivalent fixed fare on the Sorrento side: Sorrento taxis run on the meter with a 20% surcharge for journeys outside the Comune di Sorrento, so it's best to agree the price with the driver before setting off. As an alternative to a taxi, the Curreri Viaggi coach connects Capodichino airport to Piazza Tasso several times a day (tel. 081 8015420).
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
The historic centre (Corso Italia between Piazza Tasso and Piazza Lauro, with 4 electronic gates) is a ZTL (limited traffic zone) from 1 April to 25 October, every day from 19:30 to 4:00, and on public holidays also from 10:00 to 13:00. - For journeys outside the municipal territory (e.g. towards Napoli, Positano or Amalfi) a 20% surcharge applies to the per-km rate to cover the empty return trip: always agree an indicative price with the driver before setting off if there is no meter or predetermined fare.
- From Capodichino airport, Neapolitan taxis have a fixed fare of 125€ to Sorrento; alternatively, the Curreri Viaggi coach (tel. 081 8015420) connects the airport to Piazza Tasso several times a day at a much lower cost.
- If you need to catch a hydrofoil to Capri or a ferry towards the Costiera Amalfitana from the Marina Piccola port, allow extra time: the descent from the centre is steep, and traffic slows down during peak departure hours.
- From 15 November to 15 March, a winter fare reduced by 20% compared to the standard price list applies.
