How to book a taxi in Catania

Updated: July 10, 2026 · Province of CT

To book a taxi in Catania, call the radio taxi at 095 8833 or use the FreeNow app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.

In Catania, the simplest way to get a taxi is to call Radio Taxi Catania (the Social Taxi cooperative, in business since 1974) at 095.8833, or to hop directly into one of the white cars with a municipal license at the taxi ranks scattered around the city, in Piazza Duomo, at Stazione Centrale, and at the Aeroporto. Authorized cars are white, have "TAXI" written on the roof, and display their license identification number on the doors: be wary of anyone offering rides outside the official ranks, especially at the airport. Alternatively, several apps operate in the city for booking and paying for rides (FreeNow, itTaxi, Wetaxi, appTaxi), while Uber is only available in the Black/NCC version. Since 1 July 2026, new experimental fixed fares have also come into effect, including a flat-rate connection to the airport and the "Taxi by Night" scheme for evening trips in the historic center.

Taxi from the airport

Aeroporto di Catania-Fontanarossa "Vincenzo Bellini" (CTA) · ~5 km from the center

Taxi fare: 27 EUR (fixed fare) to/from Piazza Duomo or Stazione Centrale

Since 1 July 2026, the Comune di Catania has introduced a flat fare of 27 euros on the Piazza Duomo-Aeroporto and Stazione Centrale-Aeroporto routes (a Giunta resolution, an experimental measure until 31/12/2026): as this is a very recent change, always confirm the amount with the driver before setting off. The official taxi rank is at the Arrivals exit, and the Comune's cars are white with "TAXI" written on the roof and the license number displayed on the doors and inside: any other vehicle offering rides outside the rank may not be a regular taxi and could charge higher fares.

Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)

The ZTL (limited traffic zone) in Catania's historic center is active 24 hours a day with camera enforcement and is bounded by via A. di Sangiuliano, via Mons. Ventimiglia, via Vittorio Emanuele, via Raddusa, via S. Maria del Rosario, via della Loggetta, via Euplio Reina and via A. Mancini (with a fully pedestrian area around piazza Bellini). Private vehicles need a permit through AMTS (ztl@amts.ct.it), but taxis with a municipal license are automatically included in the white list and can pass through freely.
