How to book a taxi in Salerno
Updated: July 12, 2026 · Province of SA
To book a taxi in Salerno, call the radio taxi at 089 757575 or use the itTaxi app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Salerno the easiest way to find a taxi is to head to the taxi rank in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, right in front of the Stazione Ferroviaria, or to call Radio Taxi Salerno - Cooperativa Tassisti Salernitani at 089 757575, available 24 hours a day. Fares are set by the Comune di Salerno (Giunta resolution no. 202 of 29/05/2024) and, for urban rides, provide for a cost of €1,25 per km, with surcharges for night service and public holidays, while for the station there are also fixed-rate rides to certain areas of the city. As an alternative to phoning, since 2017 it has also been possible to book via the itTaxi app - now also integrated with Uber thanks to a national partnership - and since 2026 also via the new Wetaxi app launched by the same city radio taxi service. Since Salerno is the main land hub for the Costiera Amalfitana and the Cilento, taxis are especially useful for reaching Molo Manfredi (ferry departures for Amalfi and Positano) or the bus station within a few minutes, especially with luggage or tight schedules.

Apps to call a taxi in Salerno
| Uber — Active via the national Uber-itTaxi partnership (launched in 2022, renewed for another 5 years in February 2026): the Uber app routes requests to authorized taxis in the local itTaxi network (the "Uber Taxi" product), not private UberX/NCC rides. The Uber "Car rentals in the city of Salerno" pages found online are instead the Uber Rent marketplace (car rental), not ride-hailing. | Available |
| FreeNow — Not available in Salerno: FreeNow's coverage in Italy is currently limited to Milano, Napoli, Roma, Torino, Catania, Palermo, and Cagliari. | Not available |
| itTaxi — Active: Salerno was officially presented at the Comune in March 2017 as an itTaxi city and still appears on the official list of covered cities published by the operator (updated as of 15 June 2026). | Available |
| Wetaxi — On 17 May 2026 Radio Taxi Salerno announced the launch of the Wetaxi app as its new booking platform; the radio taxi's official website, however, still also mentions a proprietary app ("ùGO") for calling a taxi from a smartphone, so it's worth checking which one is active at the time of your ride. | Available |
| appTaxi — Not available: Salerno does not appear on the official list of served cities published by appTaxi. | Not available |
| BTaxi — Not available: BTaxi (the app of the Bologna-based cooperative Cotabo) can only be used in Torino, Bologna, Alessandria, Empoli, Genova, and Barcelona. | Not available |
| InTaxi — Not available: Salerno does not appear on the list of more than 70 covered cities published on InTaxi's official website. | Not available |
Taxi from the airport
Aeroporto di Napoli-Capodichino (NAP) · ~55 km from the center
Taxi fare: €150,00 fixed fare applied by Radio Taxi Salerno for rides from central Salerno (Piazza Amendola, Torrione, Pastena area) to Napoli Capodichino airport
Napoli Capodichino remains the practical reference airport for most travelers, given its number of flights and connections, even though it is about 55 km/1 hour by car from Salerno; since Napoli is not within the territory of the Comune di Salerno, in the absence of the fixed fare the metered "Tariff 2" would apply (extended outside the Comune, €2,50/km). Salerno also has its own small airport, the Aeroporto Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento (QSR) in Pontecagnano Faiano, about 15-20 km from the center, with an Aeroitalia operating base and Wizz Air/easyJet/Ryanair flights: for this route Radio Taxi Salerno applies a fixed fare of €50,00, though the route network remains far more limited than Capodichino's. In both cases it's best to confirm the price at the time of booking by calling 089 757575.
Practical tips
- The main taxi rank is in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in front of the Stazione Ferroviaria: from here Radio Taxi Salerno also applies pre-set fares (7:00-22:00, max 3 people) to certain areas of the city, for example Centro Storico/Teatro Verdi €10,00, Carmine alto/Torrione alto/Mercatello/Mariconda/Arbostella €13,00, Ospedale San Leonardo/hotel Mediterranea/Novotel €16,00, and Castello Arechi €18,00.
- For boarding Travelmar ferries to Amalfi and Positano at Molo Manfredi (Stazione Marittima), a taxi from the station takes just a few minutes: handy with luggage or tight schedules.
- Rides that leave the territory of the Comune di Salerno (for example toward the Costiera Amalfitana, the Cilento, or the airports) fall under "Tariff 2", with a higher per-km cost (€2,50 instead of €1,25): if possible, it's best to agree on a price or ask for an estimate before setting off.
- The centro storico is protected by a ZTL (limited traffic zone) with electronic gates active 24 hours a day (bounded to the south by via Roma and to the north by via Duomo, via San Benedetto, and via Salvatore Rienzi): taxis can still enter it for public service, but for points along the pedestrian streets it's a good idea to agree with the driver on the closest permitted drop-off point.
- During the winter "Luci d'Artista" event (December-January), crowds and traffic increase significantly and pre-set fares to/from the station may be suspended on peak days: it's best to book in advance or allow for longer waiting times.
