How to book a taxi in La Thuile

Updated: July 13, 2026 · Province of AO

To book a taxi in La Thuile, call the radio taxi at 375 932 0386. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.

La Thuile is a renowned ski resort at the foot of the Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo, connected to the French La Rosière via the lifts of the Chaz Dura area (Espace San Bernardo). The Comune issues only one taxi licence, currently held by Yun Zhang (Taxi La Thuile), so the most reliable way to get around is to call directly and book in advance, especially on high-season winter weekends when demand outstrips supply. For transfers from airports or when the municipal taxi is unavailable, a few local NCC (chauffeur-driven hire car) firms also operate, such as Airport Transfers La Thuile and Transfer Aosta Valley, which should also be booked in advance. In the village, for short trips to the lifts, the free internal shuttle is also useful in winter; no ride-hailing app (Uber, itTaxi, Wetaxi and similar) appears to be operating here.

Taxi from the airport

Aeroporto di Ginevra (GVA) (GVA) · ~120 km from the center

There is no published fixed fare for the airport-La Thuile route: always ask a local NCC or the village taxi for a quote before setting off. Ginevra Airport (about 120 km away, via the Traforo del Monte Bianco and Courmayeur) is the most convenient of the major airports; Torino Caselle is further away (over 150 km) but is served in season by a weekend shuttle. Aosta's Corrado Gex airport is closer on paper but has very limited commercial flights (only a few seasonal charters in 2026), so it isn't a practical option for transfers.

Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)

La Thuile does not have a village-centre ZTL (limited traffic zone) comparable to those of other ski resorts in Valle d'Aosta: the Comune only manages a limited traffic zone in the La Joux area, with transit and parking permits for the summer period (info: Comune di La Thuile, 0165 884108).

Practical tips

Frequently asked questions

How many taxis are there in La Thuile?

The Comune di La Thuile has only one taxi licence, awarded through a public tender by the Unité des Communes Valdôtaines Valdigne-Mont-Blanc and currently held by Yun Zhang (Taxi La Thuile, tel. 375 932 0386). With just one vehicle, booking ahead is essential, especially on high-season weekends.

How do you get to La Thuile from Ginevra or Torino airport?

Ginevra Airport (GVA) is the closest of the major airports, about 120 km away via the Traforo del Monte Bianco and Courmayeur (the Piccolo San Bernardo road towards France is open only in summer). Torino Caselle is over 150 km away. There are no published fixed fares: it's best to contact the local taxi or an NCC such as Airport Transfers La Thuile or Transfer Aosta Valley in advance.

Does Uber work in La Thuile?

No. Uber Black launched in Valle d'Aosta in 2025 through local NCC partners, but confirmed activation so far only covers Aosta. There are no operating rides in La Thuile, just as in nearby Courmayeur. itTaxi, Wetaxi, FreeNow, appTaxi, BTaxi and InTaxi don't cover the area either.

How do I get between the village and the ski lifts?

In winter, a free internal shuttle runs in La Thuile connecting the village to the slopes, in addition to the free Winterbus to Pré-Saint-Didier and Courmayeur. A taxi is still useful for heavy luggage, evening hours, or when the shuttles aren't running.

Can I take a taxi to go skiing at La Rosière, in France?

On skis, La Thuile is connected to La Rosière via the lifts of the Chaz Dura area (Espace San Bernardo). By road, however, you need to go through the Traforo del Monte Bianco (the Colle del Piccolo San Bernardo pass is only passable in summer): for a transfer, it's best to contact a local NCC and book well in advance.
