To book a taxi in Capri, call the radio taxi at 081 837 6464 or use the Taxi Capri (app ufficiale) app. Taxis don't stop on the street: you book them or catch one at a taxi rank.
In Capri, you call a taxi by phone or pick one up at the authorized taxi ranks of Marina Grande, Piazza Ungheria (the center of Capri) and Marina Piccola: it's almost never possible to hail one on the street, since most of the historic center around the Piazzetta is pedestrian-only and cars cannot access it. The historic service is run by the Co.Ta.Ca. cooperative (Cooperativa Tassisti Capresi), active since 1976, which operates the famous seven-seat convertible cars that have become a symbol of the island on par with the Piazzetta itself. Since 2011 the radiotaxi consortium "Moving in Capri" has also been active, bringing together taxis from Capri and Anacapri in partnership with Radiotaxi Napoli, and since 2023 there has been an official app called "Taxi Capri" for booking a ride from your smartphone. Fares are not set freely: they are fixed by resolution of the Municipalities of Capri and Anacapri, which are two separate administrations with their own phone numbers and price lists. Those arriving by sea at Marina Grande can go straight to the taxi rank at the port or take the funicular to reach the center in just a few minutes.

Taxi from the airport
Napoli Capodichino (NAP) · ~37 km from the center
Capri has no airport: the reference airport is Napoli Capodichino (NAP), but you cannot reach the island from there by taxi — only by sea. From the airport, take a taxi or bus to the port of Napoli (Molo Beverello/Calata Porta di Massa) or to the train station, then continue by train toward Sorrento; from both points you board a hydrofoil or ferry to Marina Grande, the port of Capri (about 45-50 minutes from Napoli, 20-25 minutes from Sorrento). Once you land at Marina Grande, to reach the center of Capri or Anacapri you can take a taxi from the port taxi rank or the funicular (Capri center only).
Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)
For most of the year (in 2026: from March 30 to November 2, and from December 28 to January 3, 2027) cars, motorcycles and mopeds belonging to people not resident in the Municipalities of Capri and Anacapri are banned from being brought to or driven on the island, under a decree issued by the President of the Campania Region at the request of the two Municipalities. Residents, owners of second homes registered for the Tari waste tax (one vehicle per household), emergency vehicles, vehicles for authorized events, and a few other documented categories are exempt. Penalties for offenders range from 430€ to 1.731€.
Practical tips
- The convertible cars are an experience worth having: Co.Ta.Ca.'s historic fleet includes around 30 cabriolet cars with up to 7 seats (driver included), mostly Fiat Marea Capri and Nissan Serena models, plus a rare 1960 Fiat 1600 still in service.
- From the port of Marina Grande to the Piazzetta you can take the funicular instead of a taxi: the ride takes about 4 minutes, a single ticket costs around 2,40€, it runs from about 6:25 to 21:20, and it's much cheaper during peak hours.
- Capri (the town) and Anacapri are two separate Municipalities, each with its own administration, its own taxi ranks and its own fares: always check which of the two centers your ride is headed to.
- The historic center around the Piazzetta is almost entirely pedestrian: taxis don't enter the narrow lanes but wait at authorized taxi ranks (Piazza Ungheria in Capri, the Marina Grande quay, Marina Piccola, Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri).
- From late March to early November the island bans the arrival of private cars belonging to non-residents: anyone staying in Capri must get around by taxi, local bus, funicular or on foot.
